The Chopper Builders Handbook CD's in Digital Format

The Chopper Builders Handbook CD's (which are now actually Digital Downloads) have now become almost the defacto standard for independent builders who intend on building custom Frames, Springers, Leafers or Girder forks. The information contained on these CD's is extremely detailed and each step by step process has been expanded far beyond the information contained in the online version of the website. The complete set of CD's contain over 500 pages of fabrication instructions. Our plans are the best in the industry and been tested over time by hundreds of fabricators so we know that they produce beautiful and functional results. These designs have evolved and improved over time and represent the experience, wisdom and engineering skills of dozens of Chopper Builders that have contributed to their finalization over the past thirty years.

The best thing about the plans and instructions we've put together is that you don't need access to expensive machinery or buy 'special' parts to get the project built and finished. Everything we do here from top to bottom is geared towards the average guy who has average tools and an average budget. You can build virtually anything we provide plans for if you have a welder, mini-grinder, reciprocal saw and belt sander. It's called the 'Chopper way' and it is becoming a lost craft.

You can buy other plans on the Internet from a variety of sources but you will never find anything like what we've put together. These are the nitty-gritty, hardcore real deal and they are time tested and proven to 'work'.

Note that all CD files are now delivered via direct Digital Downloads so no waiting for the mail!

Chassis Work, Volume 1:

The first CD in the series, "Chassis Work", contains over 300 pages of written material and 200 full color detailed photographs along with 32 large scale blueprints that covers virtually every aspect of frame fabrication. In comparison the website only contains 120 text pages and 116 pictures so this CD has almost three times more information than we've covered online.

The CBH frames, in many peoples opinion, are some of the most beautiful and well  proportioned frames that have ever been designed

A standard CBH 200mm frame with our Old School Springer

I really can't take a whole lot of credit for that as I only incorporated ideas given to me by dozens of other old Chopper builders that I've worked with over the years. These frames represent the accumulated artistic expression of them all and the design has its roots in the classic Choppers of the sixties and seventies. These frames are compact, low, lightweight and actually far more radical that many people appreciate, having very low seat heights but a really nice seating position. These are what we used to call 'long-distance' frames back in the old days. It's hard to see in this snapshot but the highway pegs are installed in the sidecar hoops that I always add to my bikes.

This CD forms the basis of all fundamental Chopper fabrication and provides the detailed dimensions, fixtures and techniques needed to start building a good handling frame that you can easily customize to suit your specific design objectives.

The large scale 30x42-inch prints on the CD include the as-built drawings of the stock 1948 Harley rigid frame, a chopped version of that frame that we call the Old School chassis, also plans for a 200, 240, 250 (two versions) and 280mm chassis plus plans for our 'Sneaky Pete' soft-tail that's becoming more popular for folks needing a suspension frame. Two plan sheets are also included for a chopped Sportster frame.

How to Builder Springers and Leafers:

The second CD in the Builders series contains 123 pages of written material along with 129 full color photographs of the fabrication process for three different Springer designs. In comparison we don't have any detailed Springer fabrication pages on the main website so this material fills a critical need. The CD includes 18 large scale plans for the three different Springer sizes, plus 5 plans for the Old School Springer. DXF files are including for plasma cutting the trees, perches, axle plates and rockers.

In addition to the Springer information this CD also includes 9 plan sheets and 50 pages of fabrication instructions and 30 detailed photographs for the fabrication of a classic Leafer front end.

If you're building a classic Bobber there is nothing that looks better than a Leafer and our design is extremely easy to build with hand tools and does not require that you buy or machine any proprietary parts or fittings. The average person can build one of these for less than $150 in about four days time and they ride and handle beautifully.

How to Builder Girder Forks:

The third CD in the Builders series contains 121 pages of written material along with 96 full color photographs of the step by step fabrication process. In comparison we only have a few pages on the website that get into the technical aspects of Girders but not nearly to the extent that is described and illustrated on this disk. This CD is basically a complete standalone book in it's own right and covers virtually all aspects of Girder construction. The CD also includes 8 large scale 30x42-inch CAD plans for the forks, trees and axle blocks plus the DXF files for plasma cutting the trees.

The basic CBH Girder is a well proven design that will provide the correct geometry for a wide range of bikes and instructions are included showing how to adjust the fork for various rake and trail settings.
